Non Friction

Morgan Parker

Non FrictionAfter 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.

His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it.

But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other.

So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist..

The Review

I do not usually pick up books containing infidelity as the main theme, as they are not usually my cup of tea, but Morgan parker has done a fantastic good job at dealing with this subject matter with a great balance. Morgan Parker has written this subject matter showing not only the turmoil in which the characters were faced with but also the guilt that one night could change the rest of your life! One quote captured the moment with perfection "It was wrong. Every thrust, every moan, every kiss, every quiver and toe curl. It was all so very wrong, no matter how right and perfect and ecstatic it seemed in the moment. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I just didn’t know it yet."

Most books containing infidelity try to give reasons as to why they did what they did but even though Emma was dealing with a loveless marriage, Morgan Parker never once had her justify her actions which was refreshing and made you respect her a little more for clearly respecting herself.

I think this was more than likely my book of 2014 it was very different from books I would usually read but had me laughing from the off. The main characters "quick wit" and clear "compassion" for his wife was bloody outstanding. I mean who calls there wife princess bitch? She by the way was amazing I really loved her involvement in the story and could totally see me in that character, flipping Morgan off on numerous occasions!!! I think I loved her as much as I loved Morgans sense of humour. I nearly woke my son up reading in the night with this quote, "Better yet, I should have taken pictures with my iPhone of my dick on her face while she lay half-comatose on the hotel room bed. Hindsight was always 20/20, wasn’t it?" This is totally like something my hubby would think of!

I loved the uniqueness of this book having a story within a story, it was fantastic and I really would love to hear more about "our story". Morgan Parker had me captivated by not only the main characters life story but also the novel he was writing, it came from a deep place full of emotion and passion for his love of Emma and the realisation of his failed relationship with his wife.

I don't think I could give this book any less that 5* from start to finish. I loved every second! I usually like my novels incredibly raunchy but I didn't miss it at all in this book because the characters were so well written! This was the first novel I had read of Morgan Parkers but I can assure you it will not be the last!
