Synopsis

Interview With Lesley Jones

Interview

1) Hey Lesley, I've heard on the grapevine your originally a UK lass at heart what made you leave England? And What do you miss about the UK?

I am a born and raised Essex Girl, shut up... No seriously, I am, but we decided to try something different and seven years ago we upped sticks and moved ourselves and our three boys to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, just out side Melbourne, Australia, it's much more laid back than the life we had in the UK and we love it. The things I miss most apart from friends and family of course, are Primark, the pub and a decent curry, no where here does a prawn on puri Emoji.

2) I've heard some amazing things about your book and I'm so excited to have you feature on my blog, Is there anything in particular that encouraged you to write a lead of an older era?

Thank you, the reviews for Carnage have just blown me away, the support from bloggers has been outstanding. Well Carnage is one of those epic love stories that will bring you, eventually, right up to today but it starts when Georgia first sets eyes on Sean as she swings upside down on the monkey bars, flashing her pink knickers. she's just 11 years old at the time but you need to read how it all began to understand the connection these two characters have as the story moves forward.

3) What made you pick this genre of writing? What appealed most to you?

Its the genre that I read most and it's what I enjoy.

4) Are any of your characters qualities based on real life people?

I think most of my characters are a mixture of someone I know, the best and worst of people, although Cam, is based very much on my husband.

5) Where did you gain your ideas for the story line? are any based on real life events?

I wouldn't say based on real life events, maybe real life influences, I can hear a news story that will give me an idea that ends up being nothing like the original news story once you read it in my book. I tend to go off on a tangent with things.

6) What the most amazing compliment you have received about your book?
You know what, just someone downloading my work is an amazing compliment but when they take the time to message me or leave a review, saying things like how my writing has affected them, how much they enjoy my work, well then, I usually cry, I read them out to my husband and bawl my eyes out, I still can't believe that any one would pay money for the words I write.

7) Not picking your own book what has been your favorite read? And why?

Oh that's a hard one, no pun intended, my two favourite books of last year were Boy in a band and Arsen, I think because I already had the idea for Carnage going around in my head and theses two are a bit similar in the way that nothing goes the way you expect it too, I just loved them, I love lots of angst in a book and I don't mind a non HEA.

8) If you had any advice for anyone starting out writing there own adult romance what would it be?

Read lots of books, work out how you don't want yours to read and be different, think outside the box, don't write what everyone else is writing and... when you get to the editing stage, stick to your guns, one of the best pieces of advice I was given was from Jodi Malpas when it comes to editors, always remember, it's your baby, own it and do it your way, so that's what I've always done. My characters are usually English or Aussie, why would I write in American English? I'm sure Americans find it refreshing to read something not set in the US and enjoy imagining how the accents sound in their heads. Because Saviour and Resolution are set in Auss and the characters are English and Aussie, I've included a glossary of terms at the front of the book to help readers with all the slang but most of it is self explanatory.
