Holding Aces - The Kingdom Book 1

Nikki Groom

Holding AcesThey say that time heals all wounds.
But mine are set in so deeply, they’ve taken on a life of their own, lurking in the shadows at every turn and haunting my thoughts.

The girl I once was has been replaced by a stranger.
I don’t even know who I am anymore.

I run.
And I hide.
Pretending to be someone I’m not…

Until I meet Denham King.
My burst of color in an otherwise grey world.
And for the first time in my life, I find myself running towards someone instead of running away.

But fate can be cruel,
and I can’t escape my past.
Can I?

The Review

Most of the ladies on the all for the ❤️❤️❤️ team had read this however I hadn't had the pleasure due to time restraints and my forever growing TBR list. I purchased Holding Aces at the Birmingham signing on the recommendation from Donna from over at Literary Lust and was so pleased to have the chance to finally read it on my night shift ... Holy cow ... I was not expecting that!

Night two at work and I've finished it I don't know what to do with myself. Are they tears of sadness or tears of anger! I love the journey Ari makes in this book, its magical, moving and most of all empowering. Ari is lost and broken and in need of direction, she's constantly doubting herself and talking herself in to chaos.

I love what Nikki has done with this it certainly is something special. There's a sexy alpha but for once he isn't controlling he's caring (although he could control me any day) he's Ari's distraction her back bone in her time of need. I honestly couldn't fault this book I'm left a little heart broken that's it's all over and I still have 4 1/2 hours till my night shift has finished. I can't start another book without knowing! I want to chop his balls off and feed them to him!

I don't want to give too much away as you really need to one click this and take it for a test drive you will NOT be disappointed. This book is well written, well edited and full of emotion. Nikki Groom draws you in and makes you feel as though you are there experiencing it with them.

The chemistry is palpable between the characters without them jumping in to bed with each other in the first chapter. The anticipation builds up for the reader as it does for Ari and it therefore makes it all the more explosive not only for Ari but for us as the reader.

Nikki has done a fantastic job I can't wait to sink my teeth in to book two! Good job I'm on nights for the next two weeks.
